Shred Day 3: Ahhhhh
By: Marlynn Jayme SchotlandI woke up once again in massive pain.
And then, I went for a facial.
I won a facial via Twitter from @DrGhaheri almost two months ago. He was holding a contest and the person who had the most followers to retweet his tweet would win a facial. Ta-da! I won!
Let me tell you, I had already rescheduled my appointment due to deadline issues once, and I almost wanted to reschedule again because the work pile was INSANE this morning. But, I didn’t. My body was actually screaming at me, “GO, you fool! GO! It’s a FREE facial and you are in PAIN. GO, fool!”
So I went. And honestly, it was hands down the absolute best facial I have ever received in my life. O.M.G.
Deborah Beers is the esthetician at The Camio at The Oregon Clinic (off Halsey & NE 99th, near the I-205/I-84 interchange for reference if you’re in Portland). She was friendly, asked a lot of questions about my skin and current skin care, and we chatted about the kind of extreme eczema & atopic dermatitis I’ve been battling all my life. Unlike other estheticians I’ve seen throughout the years for facials who insisted on various “natural” products that I knew my skin reacted badly too (aloe, lavender, rose hip), she really listened and it turns out she previously worked with a couple of the area’s top dermatologists who had been recommended to me by by current dermatologists. I felt confident she wouldn’t put anything on my skin that would cause a reaction.
Back to the facial: it was heaven. She started with a cleansing process and exfoliation, then did a couple of minor extractions, and spent a nice amount of time on the massage portion. Ahhh I love this part of the facial. She used massage serums on my shoulders, neck, head, arms and hands. I decided then and there that I would make a commitment to my health by getting a facial once a quarter. Finally she followed up with a mask to calm the skin from all the stimulation.
As we wrapped up, she offered to do a light application of the mineral makeup they sold there, and I at first declined but decided I did want to purchase the kit since I was running low on mine. I spent $35 and received mineral powder, mineral bronzer, and a super soft application brush.
The best part of this whole experience? The next day, I woke up and my body was relaxed, without pain. It was amazing. Part of it was likely that my body was getting used to working out, but I credit a lot of it to the facial. I highly recommend getting one after you start a new program! If you’re in the Portland, Oregon area, I also highly recommend checking out The Camio. Incredible facility, wonderful staff and amazing affordable services. Thanks Dr. Ghaheri & Deborah!
